Before You Submit Your Requisition

  • Choose the closest category. Select the browsing category that best describes your purchase. If an exact match is unavailable, choose the closest applicable category.
  • Observe category restrictions. Pay attention to categories designated for Facilities use only, capital equipment, or other specific purchasing needs.
  • Check capital coding. Items with a unit cost below $5,000 should not be assigned an 82xxx natural account.
  • Review project coding. For requisitions charged to projects, including Capital Projects, the selected expenditure type drives the natural account. The browsing category mapping does not determine the project’s natural account. Project (non-GL) details should be entered using the Project Costing fields. Once you click Update, a charge account string will generate. The Charge Account field should not be used to manually enter project (non-GL) accounting.
  • Do not use natural account 39990. This account cannot be used for any procurement purchase.

Your department is responsible for confirming that the accounting is appropriate for the purchase. Direct accounting and expenditure type questions to your department’s financial administrator.
